Kamden on laughing gas.....

So we are bad…....Kamden got a cavity, a deep cavity….to the point that they wanted to do a root canal and then crown the tooth. (yeah baby teeth, seems silly)
Jason took him to our family dentist here in Menomonie and she drilled it out and put a temporary filling on it. I guess going into the root was out of her comfort level so she referred us to a pediatric dentist in Eau Claire to complete it.

We had that appointment on Monday. Jason had warned me that Kamden was a hoot on laughing gas. As opposed to relaxing him, it made him jittery and silly. Oh was he right!!!

Right before they turned the gas on to get started, I had to go potty. (way out in the hallway) So I just said to Kamden “mom is going to run to the bathroom but I will be right back, okay?” He was like sure, fine, whatever. I get back and the dentist had just stepped over to say Hi to Kamden and turn on the laughing gas (I guess only the dentist can physically push the button to turn it on). It was almost instantaneous that he started. Imagine this conversation with Kamden talking as loud as he possible could!!!

Kamden: Mom did you go to the bathroom?
Me: Yes, Kamden I did.
Kamden: Mom did you go poop, or did you go pee?
Me: Kamden I went pee now lay there and quit moving. (trying to just get him to hush!)
Kamden: You just went pee cause you didn’t have to go poop?
Me: Yes Kamden I only had to pee, now be quiet. (I was afraid of what he would say next)
Kamden: I just love you mom

Yeah he went from the potty story to “I just love you” then he got all sappy and couldn’t tell me he loved me enough. Then he kept telling the dentist he was going to get some of that stuff for his house cause it was so good. He was so funny and didn’t want to shut up…..which made it a little more of a challenge for them to work on his mouth.

He came through it like a pro. I was so proud of him. The dentist was great, working so quickly but always talking to Kamden to keep his attention on other things.

My promise was that we would go to Action City afterwards. I really didn’t think he would be up to it, so I tried to convince him to wait for another day, but he would have none of that. We went and had a great time. (FYI-if you sign up for their fun license, you get $25 free each month, it’s been kinda nice to go play on their money)

He is now the proud owner of a “silver tooth”. We tried to get a picture but it’s the back molar and too difficult to get at.

Crazy Busy....

Its November already?!?!?

There is end in sight.
Clinicals, which I have been doing every Monday and Wednesday at Sacred Heart, are almost over! Yah. I have really enjoyed being there, such a rewarding job, but reality it’s hard to donate two days a week of free labor and then try to still get your normal 40 hour work week in.

Other happenings---Halloween came and went. Kamden was a bat. Kahne was a kitty, although most thought he was a bear. I guess he was just in a big fuzzy suit and you couldn’t really tell what he was. We had such a warm night to go trick or treating and of course the boys had way too much fun! In reality we could have skipped the whole Halloween night; by the time Halloween got here we had more candy than we knew what to do with. Menomonie puts on a “fall-o-ween” downtown where the kids get to play games for candy, and trick or treat at the downtown business. One of nursing homes in town also had trick or treating and the boys made out great there too. I have a weakness for candy so I wish it would all just disappear!

My birthday came and went. I spent the night at the hospital with my friend Amy in labor. She couldn’t pop little Sophia out till 543 the next morning but she almost made her grand entrance on my birthday. It was a long, long night and although I was beyond tired, it was worth it! She suffered from back labor so I spent almost the entire time rubbing/putting pressure on her back. Rubbing someone’s back from 5 in the afternoon till 5 in the morning, is rough on the hands. Amy says I had the easy part though. Mom and baby are exhausted but doing great!

Jason had surgery the following day. (Yeah I didn’t really get to even leave the hospital) He had his tonsils removed. He was in lots of pain but said he wasn’t immobile so he went hunting the next day. The thing they said about get lots of rest….. he doesn’t think that applies to him. He had a reaction to the pain meds they put him on and was itching all over. He thought that was more unbearable than the throat pain so he stopped the pain med and has been tolerating it with only ibuprofen. He still isn’t talking much, not that he did a ton before, I actually think he might be liking that part.

I added just a few photos. We just don't take as many as we should.....again its that time thing and being busy.
It will get better!

Anyone need a doctor?

Seems we got one in the house, but I am not so sure I would recommend him.

This morning Kahne was playing the patient as Kamden was playing doctor.
A few things I observed…..

Kamden: “Kahne I’m going to give you a shot, okay”
Kahne: “Okay”
Kamden: “Okay Kahne, did that hurt?”
Kahne: “Nope it didn’t hurt”
Kamden: “Okay let me try again.”

Kamden: “Okay are you having trouble breathing?”
Kahne: “Yeah”
Kamden: “Well put this blanket over your head real tight.”
Kahne: “Okay”

Kamden: “Okay you have to take all this medicine and lay down”
Kahne: “Okay”
Kamden: “It tastes bad, don’t it? Don’t spit it out okay?”
Kahne: “Okay”
Kamden: “ I said lay down, don’t raise back up” (as he shoves him back on the couch)

Kamden: “I’m going to use this and give you a few little slaps, okay?”
Kahne: “Okay”
Kamden: “Did that help, did you feel it?”
Kahne: “Ouch, don’t do that again Kamden.”
Kamden: “Yes Kahne, one more time and then I will give you a sticker.”
Kahne: “No Kamden”

Doctors tools: A pencil for the shot, a flyswatter to do slaps, and a blanket for breathing trouble.

They had me cracking up. I am not quite sure what doctor Kamden goes to or where his idea of treating a patient comes from. If the shot don’t hurt, well then get another one. If you can’t breathe, then cover your head with a blanket, that’s sure to help. I am not quite sure what the slaps were about other than Kamden taking advantage of the situation and taking the opportunity to swat his brother.
Poor Kahne!!

Favorite Foto Friday...

Cotton Candy from the fair.....to a 4 and 2 year old, there is nothing better.
They decided to kiss to see if their faces would stick together since it was all so sticky!

Happy Friday everyone.....have a good long weekend! We are headed down to Jellystone and looks like we are going to have pretty decent weather!!

OH. my. Goodness.

So maybe I should have taken a chemistry class before jumping right into to A & P. Actually let me rephrase that I SHOULD have taken a chemistry class.
What you learn and then don’t use, you lose….its true.
Chemistry was 10 years ago, and I don’t remember much of anything about it.

So class the other night goes a little something like this.

“Take out your microscopes.”
What we are suppose to bring microscopes.
“They are in the cabinet beside each station."
Whew…thought I didn’t get that memo
“Turn them on; we are going to look at cheek cells”
What?!…turn it on…How?! ….watch the other girl, it will be okay….oh yes….plug it in…..wait mine didn’t come on…..oh the button, yes the on button…..hit the button…..where is everyone going?!? Follow them….oh to get a slide to look at cheek cells….how we going to do that….watch the other girl…watch the other girl….What, she is getting them out of her mouth, and putting on the slide….oh okay I can do that….whats that stuff they are adding to it….just add some who cares…..how are they getting the slides on the microscope……..mine won’t fit….…there is this big metal “arm” in the way…...really how did you get it on there?!? Crap going to have to ask for help?.....wait maybe I can just lay the slide on the top of this “arm” thing somehow…….wait…..the arm moves……oh yes I see….pull it out put the slide in…….it will hold your slide in place……makes sense, makes total sense……Maybe I am just thinking way too hard about this….?! Maybe I should just run out crying…..

Yes before taking a lab A & P class, taking a refresher in chemistry would be smart….learning how to use the equipment is important…They expect you to know this…They really expect you to know this….
Someone again, remind me….just why I signed up for this….
Oh yeah its that 8 hours between leaving for work and getting home….those 8 hours…I want to look forward to them!?!
Urg…so I carry on!!

Conversation with Kahne

Me: "Kahne, where'd you get that belly stickin' out from?"

Kahne: "From a garage sale"

Me: "Really, where'd you get those blue eyes from?"

Kahne: "I said from a garage sale"

Me: "Does everything come from garage sales?"

Kahne: "Yep, except suckers, they come from Wal-mart"

This kid is a riot and so much fun to have a conversation with!!

Got Ink?!?

Jason always has a pen in his pocket.

At any given time, just ask him, he’ll have a pen you can use.

But hopefully after yesterday he has learned to take that pen out of his pocket when he puts his clothes in the dirty laundry.

Yep an entire load ruined! We have a double washer and dryer so one load isn’t like20 pieces of clothes either, it’s more like a third of the dirty clothes! The real unfortunate part is it was both pair of my work khaki’s that I like. He didn’t think that was too big of a deal after all he was more than willing to let me just buy more. That’s much easier said than done. Finding work pants that fit nice and are comfortable is not an easy task for me. That’s why I only had two pair I really wore all the time in the first place. It was lots of mine and Jason’s clothes. Urg….I would have much rather it been the boys clothes, they have triple the amount of clothes we do in the first place and theirs is cheaper and easier to replace.I guess I get to shop now….just need to find the time!

Frustration....

So I took the plunge and signed up to go back to school. Reality is I am quite excited about it!! I am sick of being denied opportunities because of who I don’t know and not what I do know so I figured I should get a more definite degree and they can’t deny me. (Well they could, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there)

I have had every reason to throw my hands up and be done with trying but I am keeping on, keeping on. First my transcripts got “lost”. Basically CVTC misplaced them, so after endless phone calls they all of a sudden located them and got that taken care of. My high school transcripts weren’t the easiest to get my hands on so the thought of trying to get them again made me just sick. It took forever to get in touch with anyone at my old high school as they are out for summer vacation and no one was ever there. Finally I got the principal and he must only have a 5th grade education, as grasping the concept that I moved to Wisconsin and I could not physically pick up the transcripts and it would do no good to have someone else physically pick them up as then they would just have to mail them was hard for him to get. When I did finally say “how about you mail them?” He was like “Yeah that’s a great plan, I’ll get them right out.” It still took a couple weeks. Not sure what the delay was. Anyways he was nice enough for sure and I got the transcripts.

Then I was missing my ACT scores on my transcripts….URG…..I guess my high school does not keep record of the scores broke down, they only keep composite scores. What?!? The guidance counselor is checking on it….but in the mean time I just signed up to retest. And have spent lots of time studying, as those high scores I had were quite a few years and brain cells ago.

And now my last frustration is basically ever general class I need is FULL. Most of my generals transferred, and I only need a few before getting to core classes…..and now all those generals are full. I shouldn’t say all of them, just the ones that are convenient. (Evening and weekend ones) So looks like I will be taking more day classes than I had planned and might not be taking as many classes as I had hoped. Oh well…keep on keeping on….right!?!

In the long run it will be worth the effort!

Flashback.....

I got my first car in December of 1997. A Christmas gift from my best friend’s grandmother (the only grandmother I ever had) because she had updated to a new model. A 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity! I couldn’t have been more satisfied. I was no longer “a bus rider” or dependent on all my friends schedule. I, too, had a car. I loved that thing! Who cared that I only had AM/FM?! I didn’t need no CD player anyways! It was poop brown and I named it Betty. (after the lady who gave it to me) It got me from point A to point B without ever giving me too much trouble. It went fast enough to get me pulled over a time or two, but looked bad enough to get me out of the ticket the officer just never had the heart to give to me.
If my memory serves me correctly it took less than 20.00 bucks to fill the tank. An average of $1.09 a gallon! So not to be a old fuddy-duddy (cause really I am not)……..but the fact that gas just might go back under $4.00 a gallon kinda has me all excited.

A new low...

Okay so sex is not normally good talk for the blogging world...no no no....

But tonight I hit a new low....

"Hubby, if I give you sex, will you take me to Dairy Queen?"
It worked.....he had no objections!
(although he made us go there on our bikes)

I have a food addiction. Ice cream calls for me all the time.

All that work for a......

MOTH!

Okay so really it wasn’t all that much work….but we found the caterpillars, we caged them (sure they loved that), we fed them and we waited…and we waited…and we waited…then they cocooned and out came a MOTH.
Stinky moths too! (and dead, but don’t tell Kamden)

Kamden says next time we should cage a worm and then maybe it will turn into a fish. Funny boy, fish start out as eggs!! (maybe we are taking him fishing way too much)

Favorite Foto Friday....or maybe I should call this "outtakes"

Its tough work these days to get a decent picture. We usually end up with either a meltdown or alot of fake cheesy smiles. We have also been quite busy and a little unorganized so taking pictures seems to be more of a task and we just don't do it as much.

I found out yesterday that a good friend is having a baby girl! After my brief moment of jealousy, which I think I will always sorta get, I am very much excited for her! I get to plan an all pink baby shower and buy just pink pink pink....so so much fun. I am sure I will get back in picture mode with that new little one coming along.

Kamden started T-ball this week. He seems to enjoy it, although his attention span is so short a hour is almost too lengthy for him. Jason is helping coach so he is always on the field with him and I think that helps alot. He is a first yearer and he is on a team with alot of second yearers so he has alot to learn. He doesn't get the concept of just running straight from one base to the next in a straight line, he thinks he is suppose to run from the base out in the field, lollygag around, then on to the next base. Although its quiet cute, he doesn't stand a chance of making it from base to base safe.....he will be out for sure. Good thing in T-ball there is no outs!

Here are a few pictures. The top one is one of my favorites (I usually like the sincere look), but I also added some of the "outtakes." See how much work he makes it.

Chores...

Lately others have been asking about chores, allowances, and what’s the right age to start chores, so I thought I would give my opinion. We might seem a little tough but the boys already have chores. They do the normal picking up after themselves and putting toys away. Kamden loves to help with the dishes. They both love washing the sliding glass door. And they both love to go get the Sunday paper for me. Kamden is so very proud of himself if he makes it back with the paper in one piece.

Off they go.

Stop and look both ways for cars. (its pretty safe as we are only a few feet behind and there is no traffic this early on Sunday AM)

Now retrieve the goods.

But do it with one hand as you can't let go of your brothers hand.

"Oh crap brother you dropped it, there goes our 25 cents."

"Your on your own, I'm going to get my money."

"I'm outta here."

Just finished....

Nineteen Minutes
I love books by Jodi Picoult and this one was no exception. If you like to read and have never read a book by her, I highly recommend her. I even have a few you could borrow! I hate to pay full price for books. I read them in like 3-5 days so it seems such a waste to me. This one was a bargain at a garage sale for 50 cents. I was thrilled to find it, I don't find her books at garage sales very often and to find this one was great as it was just released at the end of last year.
Very Good Book!!

Something blog worthy....

I never win anything. But this time I really scored big with my new coffee pot. The Breville Kuerig

She even included a 3 month supply of the pods. Variety packs so we could try all the flavors! I love The Pioneer Women
I have been reading her site for almost 2 years now, or maybe longer. She is like the best book I have ever read and she has the best giveaways. I have "played" in her giveaways for a long long time and never won....but finally I did.
So far the gloria jeans hazelnut is our favorite pod....but I am sure the gloria jeans mudslide is going to be a top choice for me too!! This is one expensive coffee pot that I would have never purchased myself but I do admit its pretty cool! What better solution than always pouring a pot of coffee out, just have your own one cup!
Thanks Pioneer Women, the world really needs more good people like you!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Yep you read that right, we had parent teacher conferences last night. The first time we were set up for one at the daycare/preschool the boys go to, we were like “you gotta be kidding me, these boys aren’t in school, their babies.” But after a few we do kinda enjoy them, if nothing more it’s a chance for us to get one on one time to talk to their teachers about how its going. Kamden is in Miss Laura’s 4 year old room and Kahne is in Miss Krystal’s 2 year old room.

So here are a few things we learned (most of which we already knew)

**Kahne is extremely verbal and lots of his friends are learning words from him.
**Kamden can count to 29, from there it goes to 40. (they only expect them to count to 10 at the age of 4)
**Kamden knows all the sounds the alphabet makes.
**Kahne loves singing and is very verbal about his few favorite songs.
**Kamden and Bryce are attached at the hip and miss each other on days they are not there together.
**Kahne is a big helper.
**Kahne has a big imagination.
**Kamden writes his name, rather clearly. (now that he figured out a big E is easier to make than a little e)
**Kahne likes to mock the things the teacher says. (yeah he does that to us too)
**Kamden doesn’t have a sense of time. (Everything happens in the afternoon according to him. breakfast, snack, circle time, lunch…..its all in the afternoon)
**Kahne is independent, doesn’t want/need a lot of help doing things.
**Kamden and all the classmates have responded well to the discipline system. (Green=good day, Yellow=you did something wrong, Red=you had to go to the office for a cool down minute, Black=your parents had to be called)
**Kahne loves to snuggle. (which we love too)
**Kahne hates paint on him. Actually cries and throws a fit if she tries to put it on his feet to do footprints. He has recently gotten better with it on his hands.
**Kamden tells his teacher all about what we do at home and on the weekends.

All in all they are doing really well. Kahne is advanced for his age group. He was the first completely potty trained!! Kamden is doing great too. I have always thought Kamden and Miss Laura have had a personality conflict as I think she likes to pick on him a bit, I still think that but lately it has been getting better. Either he has gotten better or she has let up on him a bit. Whatever the case, we like that he is having less “yellow” days. Staying on green and getting to the prize box is such a big thing!!

Week in Review

The week started out kinda crappy as my uncle passed away suddenly on Monday. He left behind a wife, three grown kids, four grandkids, and a lot of heartache. It was my dad’s youngest brother and it’s been really hard on him. I feel horrible because my poor sister is the one there to try to deal with everything my parents go through. Its times like this that I thank God my sister is such a strong person and handles things so well and it’s also times like this that I hate being so far away. Death is such a hard thing to suffer through and it sucks not being able to be there for the ones I love most during it.

At work I am also dealing with an unfortunate situation. A co-worker, a very good friend was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year at the ripe age of 27. Initially her prognosis was good and she was expected to make a complete recovery after a few rounds of chemo and radiation. Not the case at all. Each and every visit seemed to bring her more bad news and these past two weeks have been complete downhill. On Monday she was placed on hospice and her days/weeks are limited. Each of us at work is struggling with this one. Although I completely believe in a higher power and believe that she’s the lucky one, she’s completed her earthly journey, and gets to go to a better place, pain free. It still sucks. It still seems so unfair. She is just so young.
I got this quote from one of the books I reread often…"You will never be completely happy on earth simply because you were not made for earth. Oh, you will have moments of joy. You will catch glimpses of light. You will know moments or even days of peace. But they simply do not compare with the happiness that lies ahead." Max Lucado
It doesn’t make the heartache go away, it won’t keep the tears from flowing, but it makes me know without hope what would we have.

On a lighter note, I got to visit with a good friend that I hadn’t seen in almost 2 years on Thursday. A friend from Amery (where we used to live) and her boys came and spent the day with us Thursday. It was so nice to sit and chat nonstop (we are both such talkers!) with her and catch up. It helped that all the boys were so good and played outside for pretty much the entire day. Thanks Peggy for making the effort to get here to see us. It’s our turn now so we will be road tripping your way soon…..and nope we aren’t going to wait 2 years to do it!!

Friday night Jason treated me and a few of my friends to his excellent eggrolls. It really doesn’t help any diet plan when your husband is such a good cook and that he really enjoys doing it. He also experimented with crab Rangoon. They all thought it turned out good. I am not a fan of crab Rangoon in the first place.
Today we took Kamden, Kahne and Kamdens friend from school Bryce to Chuck E Cheeses in Burnsville, MN. We had so much fun and the boys were all so well behaved. Chuck E Cheeses is definitely geared towards the younger age, which was great as all the boys could pretty much do all the games. It’s actually quite cheap there too as every game only took one token. It was nice to not have to be putting multiple tokens in a machine to play.

Been up way too late way too many nights in a row lately…I best get myself all tucked in!!

Hopefully some pictures next week!

Who taught him his manners?

Kahne normally has excellent manners, always saying please and thank you without being prompted. Lately he has also been saying “Bless You” when someone sneezes. The other day it was the sweetest thing, I was in the kitchen making dinner and he heard me sneeze and came running to say “bless you mama.” So tonight, he and I were playing in the living room while Kamden and Jason were cleaning up from dinner. With allergy season Jason is always sneezing, so Jason sneezed and I thought Kahne would just say bless you. Since he didn’t, I said “Kahne daddy sneezed what do you say?”

His reply…..”Eww stinky butt.” Yep looks like we will have to work on that one.

Kamden Quotes

“Dad, can I get on the computer? I need to check my oatmeal.”

Little smart butt thinks he has it all figured out and can buy himself some computer time by “needing” to check his oatmeal. When we told him oatmeal was for cooking and not on the computer and we didn’t have a clue what he was talking about, he couldn’t figure it out. He walked away puzzled, mumbling that we are always checking our oatmeal.
Its email Kamden, pay better attention next time!

Can you do a puzzle?

Nancy you're needed! With your puzzle cap and some super glue, as its all in pieces. Didn't even make it out of the box and one frog lost his face. I think I did manage to save all the tiny pieces, wonder if you can put them back together.
I sure hope so, I liked those frogs. It won't quite look the same sitting on the steps all broke.

Really should we be building snowmen?

This has been one rough winter. Although playing in the snow can be fun, we are ready for it to be over! Some sunshine with warm temps would be nice.
Kamden thought it was quite cool that the snowman was tough enough to hold him up.

We had to build a friend for the first one cause she was kinda lonely. She's a smoker, notice the pipe. He's a hunter, notice the hat.

So he thought I would take that picture and not post it...yeah right. :)

Busy Busy....

Nothing exciting going on in the least....But I have been challenged by Lisa and I am always up for a challenge! So she wants her bloggers to blog. About what I am not exactly sure.

You will notice its became quite the challenge for me to participate in Favorite Foto Friday. Its because we just haven't been taking so many pictures. Kamden is at that fake cheesy smile stage and Kahne is just busy. Plus its so ugly outside it makes it hard to take a picture and actually think of it as a favorite. We are sure ready for spring!

We, okay maybe I get all the credit, challenged ourselves to keeping another 4 year old every other week Monday-Friday. Kenzie comes home from daycare with us and stays til her dad picks her up at midnight! Her pick up time is so far the hardest part of having her. Her and Kamden get along great. The first couple of nights Jason was a little bummed. He was like "I am not so sure I like Kamden having friends over." It just makes Jason so much less needed. He is so used to Kamden giving him all of his attention. Having three to tend to at night does not leave for a spare moment. Its good for us thought, keeps us moving!
We ventured out last Friday night, Kamden, Kenzie and I, to see Horton Hears a Who.....very cute movie! The guy at the counter was trying to be nice and cut me a break on the tickets. These kids know how old they are and they didn't want to be shorted one year! I walk up and say 3 tickets to Horton hears a who. He says "But they are 3 right cause they should be 3 and 3 and under are free, so just one ticket." I was like "oh okay", cause I could totally tell he was trying to be nice. Kenzie speaks up and was like "I am not 3, I am 4." The guy just looks at me. He goes "well for todays sake we'll just say 3." Not thinking she was even paying attention or not really caring if she was, I get the ticket and walk away. As we are walking away, Kenzie loudly proclaims "I am 4 you know and I want to be 4 cause then I will turn 5." Kids!! I just hope no other worker heard and the poor guy didn't get in trouble.

We are about 95% potty trained with Kahne. Woo Hoo. Only a occasional accident which is primarily due to laziness. When he is "busy", watching TV, reading a book, or just whatever, he doesn't want to be bothered to go potty. Although he fully knows when he has to go, he will push it to the point that he can't hold it and have a accident. Its been very few, so we have been lucky. We are fully using big boy undies at home, both during the day and during the night. Daycare still wants pull-ups, just in case. But we did let them know on Friday that we are not buying anymore pull-ups so it will be undies there soon too!

The laundry is calling my name....actually its calling Jasons name....but he rarely answers when I call his name, I know he won't answer to the laundry!

Happy Easter everyone!
I am hopeful to have a few pictures of our egg dying and basket finding early next week.

Kamden Quotes

"Here Kahne, I got you a cockin candy sucker."

Yes that slight speech problem that he just can't get rid of definitely makes us laugh. It was quite hilarious to hear him tell his brother about the cotton candy sucker he picked out for him!

Disney on Ice

We went to Disney on Ice this morning at the Target Center. It was an excellent show and both boys really seemed to enjoy it. You know it must be good if it has your attention to the point that you are surprised for intermission and for the end.
Another nice benefit is both boys skipped nap, so bedtime was a early 7 o'clock-----that was sure nice for a change!
Nemo and Marlin
Dory--this skater fit the part of Dory so so well!

I really thought I could get them to look at me?!

We have been to quite a few Disney on Ice shows.....this one for sure goes down as one of my favorites!!
